Product Review: Quik-Cull
Tournament anglers everywhere know the importance of a good culling system. Time is critical when money is on the line. Myself, I owned three before getting my hands on the Quik-Cull. Now I am down to one. The others will continue to rust in the garage. Yes, this system is by far the best I have seen. Since I hit the rust topic, let’s start there. Every cull system I owned had the same basic design that started with the metal clip that was latched after penetrating the lip of your catch. The obvious problem with metal and water is rust. The Quik-Cull is the first I have had that uses plastic clips. The key word here is “clips”. Quik-Cull’s clips are another great feature that rises over the competition. They are 100% rust-free and recyclable. There is no need to tear a hole in the lip when you can securely clip to the mouth. These two features really got my attention. Your fish goes through enough stress during the fight and he doesn’t need you poking holes in him. Tournament anglers want their catch alive and are generally some of the better conservationists. The final piece to the Quik-Cull is the colored ropes. They are woven around the clips and heat treated on the ends so to stay that way. I have had problems in the past with balls coming off of cords, cords coming off clips, etc. etc. This design is simple, yet effective. Quik-Cull systems can be found in Single Sets (6), or Team Sets (8). They currently do not come with an erasable pen and pad, but have plans to add that feature due to feedback. I personally don’t use the pads, as I like to have a pre-determined clip on my smallest fish at all times. I rarely weigh my fish unless it is impossible to tell the difference and the fish being culled are of good size. I do use cull clips on all my fish in the well, however, as it is easier on your hands. I have had enough puncture wounds trying to catch a fired up bass. The Quik-Cull makes exchanging clips quicker and easier than ever before. Another cool product they have on hand is called the Quik-Snip. This is perfect for guys like me who constantly misplace their line cutters. It is a line cutter on a retractable string that clips to your pants. Quik-Cull is the head of the class when it comes to culling systems. Not only are they user friendly, they are friendly to the fish.
