Product Review:
DragonFire I’ve received a number of packages, since joining Team AZOD, from people trying to promote new or unique baits. As a fisherman in search of these types of products, this has been a very enjoyable part of this gig. (My wife may not agree, as our P.O. Box has a constant garlic scent when the door is opened.) Anyway, a short time back, I received a package with a topwater bait from East Coast Lures that was definitely new and unique at the same time. Just about any serious bass angler has a mix of their favorite topwater baits in the the popper or torpedo variety readily available, but I had never seen a “DragonFire” until now. The DragonFire simply resembles the dragonfly, all the way from its bulging eyes to it’s elongated body, to it’s wings. The only difference is, this fly has hooks. Each lure is built to last and has been hand crafted and individually painted, in Canada, where Shawn Christianson, of East Coast lures, first showed off his new product. According to Christianson, this lure has since become a favorite of bass anglers across the border, as the success stories keep rolling in. Shawn was eager to introduce this lure in the States, and sent me one of the first in this country. When I received it, the topwater bite was virtually non-existent, so I basically spent a lot of time throwing and retrieving the DragonFire. After a few casts, I had no doubts that the twisting, shuffling action of this lure will catch fish. Eventually, my first impression proved correct. In eight casts on a recent trip to Lake Pleasant, I caught three bass and had one more good fish explode on it, but unfortunately missed. The three in the boat absolutely hammered this bait, leaving me with the confidence to throw this bait on a regular basis. This is definitely a unique bait compared to the traditional topwaters, but not to the fish. To a hungry bass, it resembles a food source common to most fisheries.
