AZOD Preferred Breeder Program |

_____1. Breeder must define the goals of his or her breeding program.
Example: To produce Field Trail Champions, Companion Dogs, Hunting Companions, etc.
_____2. Breeder must describe the breeding methodology used to achieve these goals.
_____3. Breeder must agree to maintain high standards of canine health, cleanliness of facilities, veterinary care, and socialization of dogs.
NOTE: Breeders facilities are subject to inspection.
_____4. Breeder agrees to breed with the intention of maintaining the conformation and performance standards of the breed.
_____5. Breeder agrees to breed only healthy, mature dogs and bitches of good temperament and qualities that substantially conform to that particular breed’s standards as defined by the American Kennel Club.
_____6. The breeder will refrain from breeding substandard and/or inferior quality dogs and bitches as well as those with known or apparent hereditary defects or disqualifying faults.
_____7. The breeder will refrain from breeding any bitch more than once a year, or more than twice in any two year period, if bred on consecutive seasons.
_____8. The AZOD Preferred Breeder agrees to maintain records of all breedings and resulting litters.
_____9. AZOD Preferred Breeders will not sell or consign puppies or adult dogs to pet shops, brokers, other commercial dealers, nor offer them as raffle prizes.
_____10. AZOD Preferred Breeders will objectively and fairly evaluate the quality of each puppy to be sold against the established AKC Breed Standard. In addition a dog’s potential as a conformation or field champion will be assessed and communicated to buyers as well as any faults or defects that may exist.
_____11. AZOD Preferred Breeders will not release puppies before they are seven weeks of age.
_____12. AZOD Preferred Breeders will provide each buyer with a pedigree, American Kennel Club registration application, medical and immunization records, a feeding schedule and general care instructions.
_____13. AZOD Preferred Breeders shall screen prospective buyers to ensure puppies and dogs are placed in homes that provide an environment appropriate to the breed and with people that will be able to provide for the emotional and physical health and well being of the dog.
_____14. AZOD Preferred Breeders shall encourage buyers to consider spaying or neutering of any dogs that are not intended for field trialing or other such events that view spaying or neutering as a disqualifying factor.
_____15. AZOD Preferred Breeders shall make every effort to discourage buyers from recreational or backyard breeding.
_____16. At no time shall a breeder associated with the AZOD Preferred Breeders Program misrepresent, or otherwise mislead potential buyers by making false claims regarding the background or potential of any dog sold.
_____17. If proven genetic defects are identified and verified by a veterinarian, AZOD Preferred Breeders will allow buyers to return a dog for a full refund of the purchase price or offer a replacement dog.
_____18. If for any reason the owner can no longer care for or keep the dog, the AZOD Preferred Breeder must be contacted for assistance in the placement of the dog.
_____19. AZOD Preferred Breeders will follow up on puppies after the sale to insure proper care and serve as an informational resource to offer training assistance and advice.
_____20. AZOD Preferred Breeders must provide proof of OFA certification on both Sire and Dam.
_____21. AZOD Preferred Breeders shall maintain and present upon demand, a complete three generation American Kennel Club pedigree for both Sire and Dam.
_____22. Encouraged but not mandatory, DNA testing and registration of Sire and Dam with the American Kennel Club.
