Summers almost here is your camping gear ready? R.L. Gray Team AZOD
Well get busy and pull that last camping trip you took out from the back of your mind, summer is almost here again and you need to get your gear ready.
I do this by asking myself a few questions, like did it rain and if so did my tent leak? Did my lantern work? Was the glass broke or the mantles? Did my stove work? Did I take down all the rope I used to hold up the tarp? Are my sleeping bags and air matterss in working order? Speaking of air mattres did it hold air and did I have to blow it up the old fashion way (Huff and Puff style) cause my air pump did not work.
My all time favorite one, which is asked by my wife, as I start to pull out all of our camping stuff. Honey, what is that smell? I have been smelling it for weeks now. She usually asks this one about the time I pull the ice chest out. Some how it never fails, something was left in it all winter long. This time it was just an ear of corn but man o man did it smell bad when I opened up the lid. Now I don’t know if this was good or bad or both, on one hand it really stunk or the other hand that ice chest really seals up nice.
Ask yourself about the last trip you took. Did the kids have fun, was the camp comfortable? Was it easy to find everything? What did you forget to bring? To me each trip I take is a great learning experience. Each time I go I figure out some way to make camping a little easier. One of the best lessons learned involves kids and camping, I always try and make sure there are enough things for them to do from games to fishing to scavenger hunts. There is nothing worse than have nothing to do. Now, I on the other hand, love to just lie around and soak up the fresh air but kids always have to have something.
Camping should be fun. And if you are properly prepared it can be. Get your gear out now and set up a camp in the backyard. Go over every little thing. A little time spent in the back yard will make for a lot of fun in the woods.
Remember if you Pack it in Pack it out and Pass on the heritage as it was passed on to you. AZOD
