Quick Camp

With the weather
still hot in the lower desert my wife and I were looking for something to
do this past weekend. So for our first annivarsy we decieded to head for
the high country for a quick camping trip. We ended up at long lake the
weather was great, it was cool and we had rain showers all night long.
With the monsoon rains in the high country everything is so green. This
was going to be a quick trip with just two of us so we just threw the
small tent, sleeping bags, propane stove, and a little food in the back of
the truck and off we went.
Long lake is a
short 2 ˝ hour drive from Wickenburg. It has no established camp sites but
you can camp with in site of the lake, so you will have the extra bonus of
watching all sorts of wildlife come in for a quick drink late in the
evening and early morning. To get to long lake take highway 87 north
towards Winslow, take FR 211 north to long lake. The FR 211 turn off is
close to the Blue Ridge ranger station, and from highway 87 it’s about 17
miles of well maintained FR road to the lake. In the lake you will find
Trout, Catfish, Pike, and Walleye.
What a refreshing
couple of days! We left Saturday afternoon and came home Sunday afternoon.
It was what we both needed It was cheaper than a motel, the air was
fresher, and we had all sorts of peace and quite. On the way up FR 211 we
saw about 6 campsites and at the lake only a couple of more. So pack up
your tent and family and head north before the weather turns cold.
